Don Carpenter has eighteen years of experience guiding and teaching in the outdoors. Don has worked for Alpine Ascents on Mt. Kilimanjaro, Denali, Mt. Rainier, and the Cascades. Summers find him on Mt. Kilimanjaro. He enjoys the multi-faceted nature of these expeditions. There is the challenge of the climb coupled with the pleasure of working with the local guide team. He enjoys many.phpects of Tanzania from the forests on Kilimanjaro, to the animals on the Serengeti, to exploration on the coast.

He is a co-owner of the American Avalanche Institute in Jackson, WY. His winters are busy teaching avalanche courses for the Institute and ski guiding. He loves skiing in his local mountains with numerous ski descents and tours in the Tetons. Don is also a Senior Instructor with the National Outdoor Leadership School with 170 field weeks in the mountaineering and winter programs. These month long mountaineering expeditions have allowed him to travel extensively through the peaks of the Alaska, Chugach, and Wrangell ranges in Alaska.

Don has worked 20 NOLS winter ski expeditions in the mountains of Wyoming and Idaho. His expeditions have taken him to Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Antarctica, Chile, Argentina, Tanzania, and India. Don lives on the west slope of the Tetons with his wife Sarah. He enjoys hunting elk and running rivers near his home.
