Volcanoes of Iceland

This was a great trip ! in a magical, unspoiled, diverse landscape and is a must for all explorers. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, flexible, accommodating and always smiling. He handled the schedule wonderfully and was able to fit in a rafting tour which we all enjoyed! I would definitely recommend him as a host and mountain guide! - 2012 Climber

Climbing was great but Iceland itself is the star attraction. It's a beautiful place that's ideal for anyone who really enjoys the outdoors and natural beauty. - 2012 Climber

Volcanoes of Iceland  - Mountaineering and Hiking
Training on Sólheimajökull and Falljökull Glacier
Snæfellsjökull 4,757ft/1450m,
Eyjafjallajökull 5,465ft/1666m
Hvannadalshnúkur 6,952ft/2119m
ÞverÁrtindsegg (1554m)

Ravishing in natural beauty, Iceland is blessed with glaciated volcanoes, towering waterfalls and a verdant sprawling landscape that has attracted explorers of the land and mind (Vilhjalmur Stefansson famed Arctic Explorer and Jules Verne to name a few) since the early Vikings.

After our successful 2012 inaugural trip we have added some more challenging climbs and training to the program. Certainly the beauty of Iceland is enough to entice the traveler, but very few take the time to climb local peaks and venture on to the glaciers.

Alpine Ascents Iceland expedition weaves moderate glaciated climbs with hiking and cultural visits into an enchanting 9 day journey. Climbing skills will be reviewed on our first glacier tour (Sólheimajökull) making this trip appropriate for experienced and novice climbers alike.  All climbs except Hvannadalshnúkur, are day climbs as we have 1 night on the mountain, other lodging will be in hotels. We have time to explore the countryside as well as the capital Reykjavik.

Please see our expansive day to day itinerary.

Climbing Skill Level
Climbers should be in very good to excellent physical condition

Physical Conditioning
In the best interest of personal safety, success and team compatibility, adequate training and excellent physical condition are required. Prior experience carrying a pack for multiple days serves as excellent preparation for this climb. Climbers must be able to carry an average of 20lbs or more and be physically and mentally prepared to deal with strenuous situations at high altitudes. Climbers need to be in very good excellent physical condition for both personal enjoyment and to be an integral team member. We encourage you to contact us so that we may assist you in developing a training program that meets your particular needs. Comprehensive training information can be found here.

Private Groups
We regularly organize private climbs for corporate groups, families and friends. We encourage you to book these climbs early as we are often able to cater these climbs to group-specific desires. Please contact our office to further discuss the benefits of private climbs.
