Hygiene in High Places: Webinar Recording

hygiene in high places: webinar recording

Ever felt anxious about pooping on a rope team (or in a bag)? You’re not alone — and this webinar is for you.

In this candid and super informative session, we dive into one of the most overlooked (and sometimes awkward) aspects of alpine climbing: backcountry hygiene. Whether you’re gearing up for your first overnight or are a seasoned glacier traveler, you’ll walk away with practical tips, smart systems, and a whole new level of confidence.

While we train with ropes, crampons, and crevasse rescue kits, we often skip one of the most common sources of stress on a trip: how to pee, poop, and manage personal care in the mountains. This webinar is designed specifically for female-identifying mountaineers, and covers the full range of hygiene considerations — from periods to poop bags to pee funnels — through the lens of alpine climbing.

Presented by:
🧻 Anastasia Allison – Founder of Kula Cloth and former park ranger
🧼 Morgan McGonagle – Lead guide at Alpine Ascents
💪 Heidi Skildum – National Program Director at SheJumps

They cover everything from harness pooping strategies to fostering more inclusive, prepared rope teams — with a TON of actionable advice, creative hacks, and real-talk stories. Whether you’re heading into the Cascades or onto a glacier, these tools are just as important as your ice axe.

Watch the full recording below, and take charge of your hygiene in high places.

  • Cascades Conditions Report 6/10/2026

While the calendar technically says June, the Cascades have recently been reminding climbers that winter is not quite ready to let go. Over the past week, Mount Rainier received nearly two inches of precipitation at Paradise in 36hrs! Much of that precipitation falls as as snow at the higher elevations. Alpine Ascents guides reported significant new […]
