Aconcagua: Cupcake Pony Takes a Rest Day

Our team enjoyed our last rest day in Plaza de Mulas. We finished prepping our gear for the upper mountain, ate a couple more delicious base camp three course meals, and took last hot showers.

Tomorrow we begin the upper mountain portion of our trip. We will leave base camp comforts and push up to higher altitudes and colder temperatures as we progress through three high mountain camps to position ourselves for a summit attempt several days from now. But Team Cupcake Pony is strong and ready!

Aconcagua: Cupcake Pony Hikes to Canada

Team Cupcake Pony made an acclimatization hike to our first upper mountain camp today. We hiked in the sunniest weather we have had since arriving at Plaza de Mulas. The entire team continues to gain strength at elevation.

We will use our rest day tomorrow to make final preparations for our transition to the upper mountain portion of our climb.

It was very well organized, and in the face of any hiccups there was always a plan, or options, and our guides always ensured we stayed as informed as possible. Their knowledge of the mountain was very good, they were instructive and helpful, and they fostered a great atmosphere.
