Washington Single Day Tours

  • Slot Couloir – A great introduction to ski mountaineering. This tour can be completed in a single day, with the possibility of other near by couloir objectives should time warrant.
  • Chair Peak Circumnavigation – A great way to explore the picturesque backcountry of the Snoqualmie Pass area. The varying terrain area provides ample opportunity for a wide range of skill level from steep lines to gentle cruisers.
  • Rock Howard Mastiff Traverse – This demanding yet scenic tour is a great option for an adventurous outing beyond the typical terrain surrounding Stevens Pass. This 12 mile tour with 8,000 ft of gain sees a variety of terrain from alpine bowls, chutes, and tree skiing.
  • Table Mountain Tour – Close to the Mount Baker ski area which holds the highest recorded snowfall in the US, Table mountain offers skiing on all aspects with ample options for a variety of skiing. At it’s shortest this can be a 3.7 mile tour, but easily extended to hit multiple laps for a full day of fresh tracks.
  • Birthday Tour – A popular tour for the spring when Highway 20 opens- The Birthday Tour is a classic skin in the Washington Pass zone. With a short approach and scenic views, this is a great introduction to the zone and backcountry skiing.
  • Heather Meadow Zone – Located adjacent to Mt Baker Ski Area which holds the world record for snowfall- this backcountry touring playground is a skiers and riders delight. A short approach from the parking access open powder bowls, gladed trees, and couloirs. There is ample terrain for intermediate skiers/riders and in addition access to very advanced terrain such as the famous Stoneman Couloir.
  • Paradise Zone – Enjoy a day backcountry touring at the base of Rainier! With plentiful options of long tours to Camp Muir or finding steeps in the Mazama Ridge area, Paradise has ski options for everyone.

  • Eldorado Ski Descent3-4 day tour One of the 50 classic ski lines of North America, Eldorado is a rigorous approach with close to 8,000 ft of gain to access this 8,868 ft glaciated climb.   • Forbidden Tour4 day tour Get a taste of advanced ski mountaineering with this tour in the North Cascades. Everything from large glaciers, sizeable vertical gain and descent, and demanding skiing makes for a good skill testpiece when stepping into bigger more committing tours.

I enjoyed it immensely. I came back equal parts exhausted and elated, which is pretty much a perfect result for an adventure of this sort. Everybody in the group summited on the same day. Our team’s interpersonal chemistry was especially warm and supportive, even though we had not climbed together before
