2018 Carstensz Team Arrives In Timika

Hello folks –

The Alpine Ascents International 2018 Carstensz Pyramid expedition took a late night flight out of Denpasar, Bali last night and arrived in Timika, Western Papua today.

We checked into our hotel (which by the way is an upgrade over the one we used the past two years – improvement is always nice to be a part of) and spent the rest of the day on a skills review and also resting.

The evening brought a celebration of my 46th birthday – aww, thanks!

Allen Wilson’s birthday is in three days – we’re hoping to celebrate it either on the summit of Carstensz Pyramid or (possible) back in Bali with the summit in the bag.

OK – gotta get up at 05.15 to see if the helicopter can fly tomorrow.

2018 Carstensz Pyramid Expedition departs Bali for Western Papua

Here’s a shot of our team in our vital lobby in Bali as we depart for Timika in Western Papua.

One overnight flight will bring us to Timika where, after safety briefing, we will be able to board our helicopter the next morning – fingers crossed!

Fall 2018 Carstensz Pyramid Expedition: Team Arrives!

Hey folks! Paul Koubek here, with the inaugural Cybercast for the October 2018 Carstensz Pyramid Expedition.

I’m happy to be able to report that the entire team has arrived Bali healthy and on time with all of their baggage – long journeys complete! The team members are currently resting poolside here at our hotel in Kuta Beach – convenient to the Denpasar airport and a block from the beach and sunsets.

With the first hurdle complete, tonight we depart for Timika and the next leg of our adventure!

I’ll leave a couple of photos of Balinese life – sunsets and fresh young coconuts for sipping on…

Carstensz Team Last Chance Back in Bali

Hello Everyone,

After days of waiting on good weather to fly into Basecamp things happened pretty fast the last couple of days. We flew into Basecamp on the 18th, climbed on the 19th, and flew back to Timika and then on to Bali on the 20th. Tonight we had our celebratory dinner on the beach with a beautiful sunset and meal to wrap up this great adventure! Thanks for following along, it is an amazing climb and always a fun adventure on Carstensz Pyramid!

In the next several days the team will all be heading home.

Until next time…

Ben

Team Last Chance Summits Carstensz Pyramid!

Great adventure – Indiana Jones stuff. Trip exceeded all expectations. It was much harder than expected but the group performed well and I think we all feel we had a larger than life adventure.
