Alpha Expedition Series
Alpine Ascents Alpha Expeditions are small group journeys to lesser traveled areas of the world. For the most part they are a guide’s choice of expeditions, utilizing the guide’s expertise but generally the first time Alpine Ascents uses the exact itinerary featured. (Guides are familiar with the area but we have not stayed at every lodge along the way). In turn, advertising and promotion is simple and prices are reduced and based on number of climbers. These expeditions are perfect for those who want a more exploratory feel to their expeditions (we don’t know what every meal will be or what every lodge or tent camp looks like) without sacrificing the safety, knowledge and expertise a guide can provide.

Biking in Khangia Region Mongolia
This grand bike journey takes us across the Khangai range, known for lush valleys and wooded mountain sides. A good portion of the terrain is old jeep track re-routing to cross some mountain passes. This will give us the chance to meet local herders who live off large flocks of yaks and sheep. Each day we climb 2-5 distinct passes, cross a number of knee deep streams. The terrain on the passes is also on jeep tracks with smooth packed surface interrupted by a couple of short rocky sections. Overall cycling distance is 430km, total ascent 4790 meters, highest camp altitude is 2550m. Trip includes permanent vehicle support, cycling adapted food and comfortable camping with drip shower and toilets.
DIFFICULTY: Moderate to Demanding
“I’d do it again. Met my expectations in terms of culture, conditioning, and mountaineering experiences. Good logistical layout. Great local guides, great point of interest visitation plan. I rate it higher than other organizations expeditions I have been on. Ben was fantastic ” – John, Mongolia Expedition Participant
“The overall experience was fantastic including Mongolia’s culture, people, and landscapes. I would highly recommend this expedition and climb to any alpine mountaineer who wishes expand their horizons and climb to Mongolia’s high point on the border of Russia, China and Mongolia. Everything I hoped for. Both of these guys are top notch guides. These guys consistently used every opportunity to teach us how to be better climbers. I was impressed how they would tutor us, but not treat us like children. They expected us to be experienced climbers and demanded that we rise to the occasion. […]
