Mount Olympus 5 Day Climb Itinerary

Gear Check at 10am at Alpine Ascents Offices. Following gear check climbers depart for Forks or Port Angeles (see information sheet for details) for overnight lodging.
Meet in Forks, WA at 8am (location to be determined at gear check. We then drive to the Hoh River Ranger Station (600′)and begin the 17.4 mile approach hike. We hike along the Hoh River trail through old growth timber in this rain forest 9 miles to the Olympus Guard Station camp. This camp is situated next to the river with forest & meadow surrounding.
We continue hiking up the Hoh River valley and the forest turns to a temperate forest. We reach Elk Lake, where we begin to gain elevation and the trail steepens, and reach our camp for the evening at Glacier Meadows (4200′). We have a quick snow climbing school covering crampons, ice axe & rope travel before going to bed.
We awake early and hike through the meadow and up the moraine for about an hour before descending the moraine onto the Blue Glacier. After roping up we cross the Blue Glacier & ascend to the top of “Snow Dome” (6600′) and where we have a great view of the East, Middle, & West peaks of Olympus. After reaching the summit we descend back to our camp at Glacier Meadows and spend the night.
We have a relaxing start to the day and have the opportunity to look for & photograph the black bears which frequent the area around Glacier Meadows. We then pack up our camp and begin the hike down to the river valley and establish our camp along the river.
We hike the final distance along the river and through the old growth forest, and reach the trail head in the early afternoon, then drive back to Seattle.

What can I say but Excellent! Would not hesitate to recommend. 10 out of 10. These are the guides you’d want with you if you’re in dire straits. I don’t want to single out any one guide because each guide was the essence of what a guide should be. That was the BEST skill that separates Alpine Ascents from other guide services.
