Join Alpine Ascents senior guide Don Wargowsky on this classic ascent of Peak Lenin in the Pamir Mountains of Kyrgyzstan. This 7,000-meter mountaineering expedition offers an incredible challenge for climbers with prior experience, such as graduates of our 6 Day mountaineering course or those with comparable mountaineering experience. Set in the stunning Pamir Mountain Range—often called the “Roof of the World”—this adventure unfolds in a region renowned for its towering peaks, dramatic valleys, and vast plateaus, making it a truly spectacular proving ground for aspiring high-altitude mountaineers.

Peak Lenin, positioned on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, is the perfect stepping stone for climbers looking to take the leap from Western peaks to high-altitude expeditions in Asia. Standing at 23,405 feet, Peak Lenin is well regarded as the most popular 7,000 m peak in the world, and is the highest mountain of the Trans-Alay chain.

Our expedition features an accessible technical route and a well established basecamp, with additional training and flexibility built into the itinerary for acclimatization and weather. It’s the ideal expedition for those seeking to hone their high-altitude skills and prepare for 8,000 meter ambitions. And as the highest peak in the Trans-Alay mountain chain, Peak Lenin presents a lifelong achievement in its own right.

The 2025 expedition will be spearheaded by Don Wargowsky, a long-time Alpine Ascents senior guide known for his strong work ethic and talent for instruction, and his extensive climbing expertise. Don has numerous summits of the world’s highest peaks, with a special passion for climbing in the Himalayan region. With over 20 years of experience climbing and guiding the world’s most remarkable places, Don regularly leads expeditions to Vinson, Aconcagua, Everest, and Denali between guiding mountaineering courses on technical peaks close to home in Seattle, Washington.

Our Climb

Climbers will travel the “normal” route up the west ridge of Peak Lenin. We will stay at 3 intermediate camps between basecamp and the summit, and complete an acclimatization rotation to best prepare for the final ascent.
