Cho Oyu team 2013 is in Kathmandu

Hello Everyone,

I am pleased to say that all team members for the 2013 Cho Oyu expedition have made it safely to Kathmandu. Last night we all went out for dinner to start off the expedition with some good food and drink. Today we went on a city tour seeing some of the World Heritage sites here in Kathmandu. After lunch we did an orientation of the climb and a gear check to make sure we were all ready to leave for China/Tibet tomorrow. We are waiting to hear tonight that we have received our Visas for China/Tibet and will be heading out tomorrow morning once we have them. Everyone is excited to begin our journey across the border and through some small towns as we travel in the next week or so acclimatizing as we head to Cho Oyu basecamp. We have a strong team of 7 climbers, 2 guides, 4 Sherpas, and an excellent cook. Follow along as we begin the expedition, and check out the next post for some pictures from today.

Gear Review: The North Face Phantom 50 pack

By Mike Hawkins “Man, this is a really great pack…” I said it over and over for months until my wife had finally had enough of it. She had to get one for herself.  While 50 liters is a little small for most multi-day mountaineering and winter ski tours, the small size is plenty versatile […]
