Carstensz Pyramid Testimonials

Fantastic expedition. Everything one might ask for from hair raising flights to jungle bushwhacking to cliff hanging. Full-on adventure. Excellent guides. And an unforgettable experience.

Great adventure – Indiana Jones stuff. Trip exceeded all expectations. It was much harder than expected but the group performed well and I think we all feel we had a larger than life adventure.

Carstenz was a lot more rewarding and fun than I had expected. Our guide did a great job with us. He was terrific, the natives and the guides got along with him so well and he was always positive and reassuring with us. The rain and mud were hard, but it was absolutely other-worldly there, a step back in time with the barefoot porters and crazy muddy wet jungle trails. The mountain itself was FUN! Thanks – it was a very memorable trip.

In a nutshell, all expectations met. Our guides, as always, were outstanding.

The Carstensz Pyramid trek/climb was an absolutely wonderful adventure. The Adventure Indonesia guides were excellent. Our guide’s comfort and skill interacting with the porters allowed us to “share life” with the locals for a few weeks and enhanced our experience and understanding of the Papua people.

The trip was great! I can honestly say that this trip was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done physically and ranks pretty high up there in terms of mental challenges, too. The jungle is formidable, to say the least. I really feel privileged to have been on this trip with our team and guides. Having seen all the possibilities for mix-ups and delays, I am amazed that we proceeded exactly according to schedule. Kudos to our guides and Alpine Ascents for making everything work smoothly.

Fantastic expedition. Everything one might ask for from hair raising flights to jungle bushwhacking to cliff hanging. Full-on adventure. Excellent guides. And an unforgettable experience.

  • Self Love and Wilderness

Submission by Avalon Qian. “Tag responsibly, keep the West wild.” I pause mid-mindless-instagram scroll. This is not the first time I have seen this sentiment in an instagram post or an article about leaving no trace: “Tag responsibly.” “Keep the West wild.” What does this tag mean? I understand the fear that wild places may […]

  • Overboot Fitting 101

Submission by Andy Souder in the gear department. Double boots are a great step-up from single boots for high-altitude expeditions. They aren’t sufficient for all environments though. Places like Denali and Vinson are often too cold even for double boots! You have two routes depending on your budget, goals, and fit needs:   A “triple/8000m/all-in-one” boot […]
