Mount Baker | Koma Kulshan — North Ridge Testimonials

I really enjoyed the teamwork between Shane and Bryce and felt they complimented each other in their teaching styles. They each had unique perspectives and experience to speak from, that just added to the extent of the education provided. They were clear, concise, and made sure they knew what the group wanted to learn. Then, because our itinerary had changed, they completely molded the instruction to what we wanted.

This was my favorite expedition I’ve been on to date. My guide was great, and administration/office staff were great to work with! I learned a lot from my guide. It was great to get one on one time to ask questions about anchors, systems, navigation, etc. He did a good job explaining things and why they were applicable in certain situations. I will definitely be booking my future trips out west with AAI.

Our guides did an outstanding job. The climb was challenging but we felt safe at all times. They pushed us physically, but never had us outside our comfort zone. We lucked out with beautiful weather, and the North Ridge was spectacular!

2020 Climber

It was by far the best climb I have ever been on. The itinerary was spot on. The guides show so much enthusiasm and really bring out the best in the climbers. They were always eager to show and share their knowledge, and had exceptional communication skills. I thought the trip was perfect.

Had an amazing, fantastic, time! My guide was bomber and offered me the most demanding, aesthetic climb I’ve ever done. First time I’ve ever been able to move as quickly as my fitness would allow, and have a guide that not only could throw down with me, but also was having such a blast going fast and light.

To be honest, I don’t believe there were any weaknesses. The schedule was on point and allowed for plenty of rest. The small group size provides great opportunities for one-on-one training to really discuss more advanced scenarios. That’s not something I’ve necessarily had on other climbs. I also thought it was great that after the climb we all sat down and discussed our takeaways from the climb. What we learned and what we need to improve upon.

Our guide’s intimate knowledge of the local area also makes him an impressive interpreter of the landscape, which adds to climbers understanding of the area and overall experience. Other climbers in the group mentioned that they appreciate how he involves the group during decision making and his overall thought processes as the group leader, which in turn provides insight to keen clients who are interested in developing their own independence in the mountains.
