Mount Kilimanjaro Testimonials

Our guides were really great. They knew the route inside and out. They gave us a full run down on everything from what to expect from potential altitude sickness to how to lace your boots properly. We felt like we were in good hands the whole time.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Kilimanjaro experience beginning with the correspondences containing the proper gear lists and the physical training recommendations and reminders. I believe this was the start of setting us up for success. Having an incredible guide leading us and the support staff taking care of all our needs made for an enjoyable experience and left us with memories to last a lifetime.

2019 Climber

Everything was beyond our expectations. Having done Rainier with AAI before, I had a high level of expectation for another great trip. Hands down the guides and all involved went above and beyond to make both the hike and safari the best possible experience.

I am highly impressed with Alpine’s website and the extensive amount of course materials and correspondence that was supplied to us. It all includes very thorough information that answers the majority of questions and concerns we may have had. The office staff, specifically the Gear Department, was wonderful to work with and also had tremendous patience with questions and concerns that I had.

Our guides were incredibly personable and easy to get along with. They always had a smile on their faces and kind words to share with us. It was so uplifting to come into camp at the end of the day to see them singing and dancing and cheering us on. It was excellent for our moral and kept us going during difficult times.

I immensely enjoyed my expedition to Kilimanjaro. The trip was thoroughly organized and the logistics were top notch. I always felt like everything was planned out to the last detail and it made me felt confident as the trip progressed. The quality of the staff was incredible and everyone went out of their way to make sure that all of the climber’s were comfortable and well taken care of.

The level of care from our guide and the local team was outstanding. The incredible logistics and coordination needed to pull it off are simply hard to imagine. Well done AAI. From a returning customer who was impressed many years ago, you’ve managed to get even better.

2018 Climber

It is an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Every aspect of the hike was enjoyable, including food, lodging, and extracurricular activities. Our guide was a very effective communicator and was patient and well-experienced. They reviewed goals and plans every day, as well as expectations and possible worst-case scenarios. Great route, expedition crew, and lead guide. I cannot think of a legitimate weakness.

2018 Climber

Best trip ever. Scenery, nature and experiencing a new culture contributed to a large extent. Our guide was in control of the group and the support staff at all times, gave repeated updates on what to expect next etc. Excellent job. The strengths of the program are as advertised: strong western guide, excellent local staff (perhaps the highlight of this trip!), enough time to acclimate on the mountain, etc.

2018 Climber

We very much enjoyed the expedition. Logistics were seamless, high quality of the local staff, and our guides were outstanding. Would note that this is my third Kilimanjaro summit with Alpine over the past 4 years and the consistency across the experiences has been remarkable. Unquestionably. We also had a large group of climbers – 17 in total – of various skills and also varying degrees of feeling unwell on the mountain. Our guide was outstanding at managing the group, maintaining control and helping everyone get to the top. He was very good at passing along tips and techniques for dealing with the mountain – whether that be from pace to breathing to rest-stepping to self-care. Very useful, easily presented and easy to grasp.

    Blister Prevention and Foot Care

Blister Prevention words: Mike Hawkins   Take a few seconds to think of the toughest person you know, or the toughest person you can imagine from your favorite action movie… Got it? This person should probably be covered in mud or have some cuts on their arms and legs, but they don’t care because […]

    Gear Spotlight: The Headlamp

Words: Val Peckarsky Photo Credit: Cecily Breeding It has been said that if you don’t pack a headlamp on a trip, you are guaranteed to need one. Small and easily overlooked, headlamps are extremely useful in the backcountry for pre-dawn alpine starts, late-night cooking sessions, and pretty much any other time a little extra light […]
