This is my fifth climb with Alpine Ascents, and our first international mountain climb. AAI continues to be the industry leader in climbing. The care everyone takes to prepare us for the climb, the emphasis on safety, and attention given to every detail of the trip are highlights for me. I have climbed domestically with other companies, and have I seen what appear to be forced group marches up mountains lead by other guiding companies, that’s not my experience with AAI. Top notch, world class guides, personal service and attention, and a focus on climber safety are the hallmarks of AAI. The Volcanoes of Mexico did not disappoint. Thanks for another great experience, we will be back.
It was hard and dirty. It was fun. The guides were great. My fellow team mates were awesome. Our guide was a great cook, and we ate well. The hotels were perfect, the logistics seamless. This was my first international expedition, and presented a great learning opportunity. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
Our guides were excellent at making sure I got on track for acclimatization despite arriving an entire 24 hours late due to a flight delay. They were patient teachers, and gave us great motivation as we moved up the mountains. On Chimborazo, they were very relaxed and confidence inspiring. I’m not sure we would have made it to the summit on time without their steady pace and determination.
I had such a wonderful time! Jose Luis is a beyond excellent guide — kind, so knowledgeable, very easy to get along with. The other guides were also amazing. All the accommodations were wonderful. The trip was extremely well laid out.
All of the lodging was lovely in different ways. My favorite was probably Tambopaxi lodge due to the wild animals, but I enjoyed each unique experience along the way. The porters were fast and helpful and beat us to/from camp each time. Our cook was very helpful and made us an unexpected hot meal of quinoa soup with fresh cheese and avocado before bed. The hot springs were also a great way to kick off the trip. The program was “mountaineering luxury” that let us rest up, enjoy our vacation, and keep the suffering limited to the climbs. We also got to see a lot of culture and have a bit of free time as we traveled the highlands.
Amazing! The lodging, bus, food, scenery, hosts, and guides were of the highest quality. Every aspect overdelivered. Many of our hosts, drivers, porters were warm and friendly. The accommodations were beautiful and comfortable. Even Stubel camp was comfortable and the soup was delicious with fresh ingredients (totally unexpected)!
Beyond what I imagined. The lodges were all unique and so much history. It was amazing to experience all of it.
The people and the guides were absolutely awesome. I can’t say enough about the guides. They were the highest caliber I have ever climbed with. They did the best glacier and crevasse rescue overview I have done since my initial course. They showed patience and worked with everyone to help them understand techniques in the ways that made sense to them.
Every aspect of the program was a strength, with the greatest strength being our guide. Additionally, the Tanzanian crew was incredibly kind, helpful, and seemed genuinely dedicated to our success. Having the portable bathroom at our lunch stops and overnight made the trip that much more enjoyable and felt luxurious. I can’t think of any weaknesses to the program. I would not only highly recommend Alpine Ascents to others who want to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro, but my wife and I are very much considering additional trips with your team in the future.
My partner and I were incredibly satisfied with every aspect of the expedition. From the guide, to the Tanzanian crew, to the accommodations and meals, the entire expedition was incredibly enjoyable and exceeded our expectations. On a scale of 1-10, everything was a 10! I would go anywhere in the world with you.
