Day 4 at Union Glacier Camp

Hello everyone, this morning we were excited when we were asked to drop down our tent and get ready to load the plane for our flight to Vinson Base Camp, however the color rolled in at base camp and they told us to stand by.
We were hopeful we could fly to base camp today however we could not and are spending another night here at Union Glacier Camp, this is our day 4. While waiting at camp we went ahead and practiced sled rigging and went on a little stroll around camp. Everybody are patiently waiting and looking forward to move on towards the mountain.

We will keep it posted and hopefully will fly to base camp tomorrow.

Team Friends on a Summit Day Takes a Final Rest Day in Mulas

Today we enjoyed a final rest day in Plaza de Mulas and prepped our gear for the transition to the upper mountain. Tomorrow we will begin our push up through a series of three high camps with the move to sleep at Canada, our first upper mountain camp.

It snowed all afternoon today and yesterday, so the photo below showing our excitement for hot soup at dinner pretty well sums up our day of seeking out ways to be cozy and warm!

Buenas noches,

Rachel

Another day in Union Glacier Camp- Team V5

Hello Everyone, today is day 3 for all of Vinson climbers here in Union Glacier Camp. Weather was in and out, we were excited to get going and move one step closer to our goal, however the fog at Vinson Base camp just cover the runway and didn’t let us fly today.

Here we are still at Union Glacier Camp for 3rd night. We were able to do some skills and practice some fixed line climbing, ate lots of delicious food and played lots of cards. We shall see what the weather does for tomorrow, will keep it posted. Until then take care everybody back home and keep sending luck and prayer our way.

Namaste,
Jangbu & Bryce

Learning about our host country!

Today we had a great breakfast at the hotel, then loaded all our bags into our van transport and headed to the Museum of Anthropology. Our cultural guide, Arnoldo, gave the team a great tour of the highlights of the museum and emphasized the history of the peoples of this part of Mexico. We then left Mexico City and headed to Tlaxcala where, after lunch, we got a walking tour that included the first church built in Mexico and it’s oldest bull ring. From there we headed to LA Malinche national park to our lodging for the next 2 nights; cabanas! The group is excited to be at the base of our first objective!
We will check back in tomorrow, thanks for following along!

January 10 Kilimanjaro Kicks Off

Friends, family and loved ones,

Welcome to our coverage of the January 10 Kilimanjaro climb! After long flights from the USA, team members trickled in to Arusha yesterday and everyone arrived just before midnight.

Today was jam packed and there was little downtime to feel any jet lag. We had a trip briefing in the morning and a gear check in the afternoon, followed by a walking tour of downtown Arusha.
