Fredy Tipan
Guide: Ecuador
Born in the foothills of Antisana volcano, Freddy Tipán grew up hiking and climbing in the Antisana region, which sparked a lifelong passion for the mountains. With more than 25 years of climbing experience in Ecuador, he became the third Ecuadorian guide to earn the prestigious IFMGA international certification, completing his advanced training at the École Nationale de Ski et d’Alpinisme (ENSA) in Chamonix, France.
A veteran expedition leader, Freddy has guided extensively throughout Ecuador and the southern Andes of Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. In Nepal, he has guided Ama Dablam and several other 6,000-meter peaks, and in 2026 he summited Mount Everest while guiding for an international expedition. He served for many years as Director of the School of Mountain Guides in Ecuador, where he continues to teach as a senior instructor. When he’s not on high-altitude peaks, Freddy enjoys horseback riding, one of his favorite pastimes.
