Team visits Thame village
Namaste everyone,
The last 2 days have been a lovely jaunt off the main trekking route to Thame village, and back over thru Khunde and Khumjung. In Thame we stayed with old friends at the Valley View lodge and the family of Dr Kami Temba Sherpa. We visited the Thame Gompa (monastery) which dates to the mid 17th century and is one of the most important monasteries in the region.
On the way thru Khunde we were able to visit Dr Kami at work at the Hillary hospital. Established in the mid 1960s by the Hillary Foundation it was the only medical hospital in the entire region until the last 15 years. Dr Kami has served as the director and main care provider for nearly 30 years, and still works part time.
Today we will rejoin the main trekking route on our way to Tengboche, where we will have a chance to visit the famous monastery.
The team is doing great and we are all enjoying walking in this amazing Autumn weather!
