Originally from Colorado, Kiira grew up snowboarding, rock climbing, and kayaking with her family. After high school, she took a gap year, traveling with NOLS to Patagonia, Chile, and completing her EMT certification through Denver Health Paramedic School. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Puget Sound, where she deepened her love for the natural world and discovered her passion for instruction and teaching.
Kiira has been working as a mountain guide since 2019, leading expeditions in Utah, Washington, and Alaska. Her experience spans technical rock, alpine, and ski objectives, with a strong foundation in risk management and wilderness medicine. When she’s not guiding, she enjoys whitewater kayaking, skiing, trail running, and climbing. Her current pursuits are multi-sport adventures that involve glitter!

What was your first mountain?
Mt. Sherman in Colorado, I was 6/7 and was with my Mom, Dad, and sister!

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not guiding?
I enjoy running, Kayaking, Baking bread, dancing, seeing live music…

What’s always in your snack bag?
Cheese! Portable Dairy= essential

One piece of advice for aspiring mountaineers
It’s not about the objective, but rather the people you try hard with.
