Course Curriculum

The AMGA Single Pitch Instructor course

The AMGA Single Pitch Instructor course has been successfully used as a training ground for individuals who wish to teach climbing technical skills and gain the Single Pitch Instructor Certification.   This course is designed for aspiring climbing instructors.  The SPI course is not a climbing course and for those wishing to learn to rock climb we recommend looking at our 5 day rock climbing course.

Increasing technical climbing knowledge and skills in the following aspects:

  • Professional climbing instruction
  • Advance discussion in climbing equipment and materials
  • Knots and hitches
  • Selecting a climbing site and group management
  • Risk management techniques in a single pitch environment
  • Teaching technical skills such as belaying/rappelling
  • Leave No Trace for the climbing instructor
  • AMGA instructor responsibilities and scope of practice

No joke, this was a thoroughly planned and executed course. Very well organized, the opposite of a “gong show.” I will absolutely use the skills on future climbs and courses. Our guides curated a curriculum that cut the fat and emphasized the important skills.
