Trip Cancellation/Evacuation Coverage

To purchase Trip Cancellation/Evacuation Coverage for your trip:

There are 3 basic types of coverage:

1) Trip Cancellation Insurance – This is the most comprehensive insurance which may* cover you for cancelling a trip prior to departure. Please see the actual policy for details but is best utilized for cases of injury illness, injury or death in the family as a cause for cancellation (some extreme work and other situations may be covered as well). This policy generally includes Evacuation and Medical Coverage. Please see the Ripcord/Redpoint policy for details.

2) Evacuation Coverage – This coverage is mandatory for many of our trips as an entry requirement to visit the country. This is often combined with medical coverage. This is not ‘insurance’ as one must usually contact the insurance company prior to evacuation and the insurance agency will make payment to directly to those conducting the evacuation.

3) Medical Coverage – This coverage is mandatory for many of our trips as an entry requirement into the country. Please note that you may be able to use your current Health Insurance Policy to meet this requirement but you will have to pay for services up front and then seek reimbursement after services have been rendered, thus most choose to combine evacuation and medical insurance. Like Evacuation Coverage, one must usually contact the insurance company prior to the commencement of any medical treatment and the insurance agency will make payment directly to those administering medical care.

* Please refer to the policy for specific details, Alpine Ascents is not the insurance offeror. The determination of whether an insurance company will pay for services or lost services is made after the climber/trekker/traveler submits a claim form which will be reviewed by the insurance underwriter.

Alpine Ascents recommends these companies for the above services:

Ripcord by Redpoint

When purchasing, no code is needed to purchase Ripcord Rescue Travel Insurance as this insurance plan is prearranged with Alpine Ascents. We recommend the Comprehensive Travel Insurance Policy as this includes both Trip Cancellation and Interruption. There are some other less comprehensive evacuation policies for our Mt. Vinson climb. Global Rescue

Global Rescue is a leader in Evacuation Services and offers an annual membership, which is excellent for those traveling more than once a year (with Alpine Ascents or otherwise). Note: This policy does not meet the requirements for our Vinson/Antarctica trips.
