May 24th Denali “Ari’s Angels” gets prepped in Talkeetna

Hello!

Today our team met up for the first time and did our orientation, gear check, and briefing with the National Park. Everyone is very excited to kick our trip off! During dinner as a team, suggestions for a team name were thrown out and then a vote was taken, with the win going to Ari’s Angels (no, not suggested by Ari).
We are packed and ready to go for a morning flight as long as we have a weather window to fly onto the glacier!
Thanks for following along, and we will update you tomorrow!

Team Buttress Busters Preps, Eats Pizza

Hello everyone,

Today was day one of our trip, full of all the pre-trip preparations. We started the day getting to know each other over coffee and then running through all our gear for the weeks ahead. Some lunch and refreshing on skills followed and at 4pm we had our Denali Briefing with the National Park Service. With all of our to do list checked off, we enjoyed some pizza and music out in the bustling town of Talkeetna. We decided on the team name of The Buttress Busters, though a close second was Midlife Crevasses. More to come tomorrow!

Failure to Launch Reaches Camp One

This is Steven checking in with Team Failure to Launch. We are currently at Camp One. We had pretty good travel conditions today, getting up here in up not too much snow. The weather was a little bit of a mixed bag. It was hot and sunny at times, cloudy and snowy at other times. But we’re here, about to eat some stir fried veggies for dinner.  There’s a few different ways we can deal with the next part of the mountain. I still haven’t quite decided. We’ll see what the weather’s like, but we’ll be moving up the mountain some distance tomorrow. We continue to make progress, which is good and we’ll let you know what we get up to!

Team “Failure to Launch” Successfully Launches

Hi Everyone,

Stephen checking in here from Talkeetna. We’re going to roll with Failure to Launch as our team name. After several days waiting in Talkeetna, sampling food from all the restaurants, and reviewing some skills in the AAI hangar, we’re finally in the air on the way to BC! With the later hour we’ll probably start up the mountain tomorrow!

Our Denali climb was recommended by Lonely Planet, 2017.

  • Denali ’24 in a Nutshell

Submission by Jess, Alaska Operations. When I touched down in Talkeetna this year, greeted by sunny skies and perfect weather, I couldn’t help but feel hopeful for a smoother forecast for Denali climbing season compared to the previous year’s relentlessly poor weather. Julia was clearly on the same wavelength because just a few weeks before, […]
