The Blockade Runners Move to Huayna Potosi Base Camp
Due to the amount of snow that has fallen over the last few days, we switched to 4×4 transport today and reopened the pass to Huayna Potosi. Over the last few days, we’ve had snowier conditions than normal for this time of year. In fact, it’s been a great number of years since we’ve seen similar conditions for late May! It was a beautiful drive and we are now at the Huayna Potosi base camp at 15,700 ft.

The Blockade Runners Hike to Tuni
Today we hiked from our camp in Condoriri to the tiny village of Tuni. The views across the mountains and hills were beautiful with the fresh coat of snow. We spent the afternoon at a family run lodge in the village and learned to make a toasted ground barley dish and then practiced our skill with a traditional stone in a sling used in the countryside for llama herding.

The Blockade Runners Summit Pequeño Alpamayo
We summited Pequeño Alpamayo in more difficult than normal conditions with a good layer of fresh snow and unsettled weather. But this is an exceptionally strong team and they were up for the challenge. We also enjoyed some really unique beautiful snow covered views during a time of the year that is almost always very very dry. So congratulations to the team on an especially exciting summit of Pequeño Alpamayo!

The Blockade Runners Practice Skills
Today we hiked to the Pico Tarija glacier and spent the day practicing a variety of technical skills that are applicable to our upcoming climbs. The team is acclimating well and we are enjoying spending time in the beautiful Condoriri basin!

The Blockade Runners Summit Pico Austria
We summited Pico Austria today at an elevation of 17,454 ft!
Everything I expected. Wonderfully run, great time. I felt well acclimatized throughout the trip. I felt that the guides wanted to help further my climbing skills to ensure I could meet my future goals, not just get climbers to the top.
