Samagaun

Hello Everyone,

We have made it safely by Helicopter to Samagaun, our first stop to acclimatize before Basecamp. We will be here for two nights, before heading up a little higher. Once we arrived we got right into checking out the town with a couple Puja ceremonies at the local monasteries. It was a great cultural experience for the team and a good way to start the expedition with a couple blessings.

Tomorrow we will be doing a couple hikes to further our acclimatization. We are now at 11,500ft here and the team is feeling good! We are still a little tired from jet lag and looking forward to a good nights sleep.

I will update again tomorrow. Thanks for following along!

Manaslu 2022 kicks off!

Hello Everyone,

Our Manaslu 2022 expedition is just starting. Both of our climbers have arrived safely with all luggage to Kathmandu. Yesterday we did a gear check, lunch at the famous Fire and Ice restaurant, shopping in Thamel, and finished off the day with a great meal at our favorite restaurant Mezze.

Today we will do a city tour, visiting a few of the World heritage sites in Kathmandu and do any other last minute things we need to do today before flying out to Samagoan tomorrow morning.

Our Sherpa team have already arrived in Basecamp with all of our expedition gear and food. Looking forward to seeing them soon and starting the climb shortly!

Thanks for following along!

Manaslu Expedition Departs September 1st!

Stay Tuned!

Heading home from Manaslu

Today our team made the decision to head home based on the current conditions of the mountain given the recent avalanche. Since that massive avalanche a few days ago there have been several smaller avalanches and we do not feel the conditions are safe enough to justify staying on the mountain and continuing the climb. We have had an excellent time here on Manaslu the past few weeks, and are thankful that all of our team are in good spirits and happy with the outcome of our expedition given the circumstances. We are also very thankful for our climbing Sherpa who have supported us throughout the expedition by helping carry loads and establish our high camps, these are truly wonderful people that make the expedition possible for us.

We are now packing up our base camp and will be heading down as a team to Samagoan later today or tomorrow, then waiting for a helicopter flight to Kathmandu. This will conclude our regular cybercasts for the expedition.

Thanks for following our Manaslu expedition! We are already looking forward to coming back to the Himalaya for Everest 2013 next spring!

Garrett Madison, Expedition Leader

Great program. The expedition was well organized and leadership was outstanding…AAI has the logistics dialed in on this one. No hitches in logistics. Lots of moving around from hotels to huts to climbing. Everything went as smoothly as one could possibly expect.
