Elbrus 2018 Team Puttin’ on the Ritz Descends to Terskol

Comrades, Family & Loved Ones,

We all went to sleep by 8 pm last night after our summit and after a good 10 hours in the sack, we rose early, packed our duffles and descended to our hotel in Terskol.

It was a beautiful, warm and sunny day in the valley so some of us decided to go horseback riding. We had a fabulous celebration dinner tonight. An abundance of Shashlik, 3 different types of veggies, hichin (delicious pancakes stuffed with seasoned potatoes and cheese) and some ponche (doughnut-like pillows of goodness). After dinner, we all needed some ice cream to cap it off. A major feed.

Our local guide Andrei is a talented photographer and he treated us to a slideshow after dinner with his fabulous photos of our climb.

Tomorrow we have a bonus day here in Terskol and we’re all planning to go for a hike.

Thanks for following!

Elbrus 2018 Team Ritz Climbs

Comrades, family and loved ones,

Up with the sun, down with breakfast and we headed out on the trail. Plentiful sunshine and mountain view’s made for great trucking up the snow slopes of Elbrus. Pressure breathing and rest stepping were key to our feeling good even at our high point of 15,000 feet at Pastokov Rock.

Several team members decided to slide down the mountain in garbage bags. It was a bit wet but a lot of fun. When we got back to our base camp we honed our crevasse rescue skills.

Our climbers seem to be adapting very well and are solidifying as a capable team. This bodes well for our upcoming summit attempt. The morrow brings more skills training and preparation so please join us.

All our best,

Carole and Vern Tejas

The expedition was very well handled especially by Vern. All needs were met. It isn’t my first time to climb with AAI but it is the first private group we put together with them and I must say Vern and Carol did a great job in making our experience unique.
