More rest for Team Sweet and Salty at Basecamp

Hello Everyone,

We had another restful but productive day. There is a bit of a head and chest cold going around, which is pretty usual on this trip so we will rest accordingly until the team is once again healthy.

I’m working on the next video for a tour of Basecamp so you can get a feel for what it’s like to be here. The below photo I took last night at 3am as climbers (porters and climbers) made there way through the icefall. Many similar photos have been taken but I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out and gives you a feel for the beauty and draw of this place.

Thanks for following along!

Rest day in Basecamp for Team Sweet and Salty

Hello Everyone,

Today we had a pleasant day getting aquatinted with Basecamp. Most of the day was spent organizing, relaxing and getting the tents all dialed in, including the comms tent. Our Nepali staff had already done a ton of work and most of the “heavy lifting” but we still had some lights to wire, and gear to organize. We are looking pretty good now and will spend the next couple of days resting and acclimatizing before we start doing some more hikes, and training. After all that we will be ready for our first rotation to camp 1 and 2…..

Here are a few bulletins:

Our Puja ceremony will be on the 19th.

A couple of our climbing Sherpa’s have already made it to camp 2 and it sounds like the route to there is good!

Gopal our head Cook has been preparing incredible meals. Already we have had: Pizza, Chicken and Lasagna, and tonight we had Strawberry cake for dessert.

Thanks for following along…

Climbing team: Sweet and Salty make it to Basecamp

Hello Everyone,

Today we have arrived to Basecamp at 17,500ft! We started out at Lobuche at 16,200ft and had beautiful weather for our last hike to reach basecamp. We were greeted by our staff as we arrived and treated to tea and a great lunch prepared by our amazing Chef, Gopal! After a couple hours of relaxing and moving into our tents we relaxed in our dining tent happy to have arrived. Our staff has once again made a very nice basecamp for us with a lot of hard work moving rocks and setting up tents.

After another great meal prepared by Gopal we are heading off to bed. We had a few snow showers in the afternoon but is calm and clearing up now. It’s great to be here! I’ll be working on a short video of a tour of our Basecamp the next couple of days. Below is a photo heading into basecamp, and another one of a Zo. Thanks for following along.

I have to say, though I knew it even before joining this expedition, AAI is the best company with the most perfect logistics and greatest guides on the mountain, bar none.
Eric, Lakpa Rita and Ben were the key reason Dave and I decided to go to Everest.
