Everest Base Camp Trek Cybercasts

Patience Pays Off!

Namaste friends, family and loved ones,

Today was a brand new day for the Flexible Assenders! On every trek,we always are booked on the “first flight” to Lukla but today we were Actually on the very first flight. We took off from Ramechap at about 6:15 am and we were eating breakfast in Lukla by 7 am.

Team at Lukla Gate

Some of our Trail Staff

The Team is so excited to be here in the Khumbu and we were able to soak up the beauty and culture of the lower valley on our walk today.

The rhododendrons have started to bloom early this year and the fields are green and lush. Really nice to be here at this time!

The Team is doing very well and is super psyched to climb up the hill to Namche tomorrow.

Vern and Carole

Team Attempts to Fly to Lukla

Namaste friends, family and loved ones,

The good news: We’ve agreed on a team name and will hereafter be referred to as the Flexible Assenders.

The not-so-good news: The Team had a 4:00 am wake up call and headed to the airport, where we waited for the weather to improve so that we could fly to Lukla and begin our trek.

We waited and waited, in the terminal and then on the tarmac, then back to the terminal and back again to the tarmac. Eventually, the plane took off but landed in Ramechap, part-way to Lukla, because Lukla was clouded in.

We waited in Ramechap to see if the weather would clear but it did not, so here we are for the night. Obviously not anyone’s first choice, but we are well fed, healthy and in good spirits. And most of all, Very Flexible.

Fingers crossed for better weather tomorrow.

All our best,

Vern and Carole

Team Tours Kathmandu

Namaste friends, family & loved ones, We headed out early this morning to tour Kathmandu. At 8 am, we were the only tourists visiting the Monkey Temple and got to see the many local people coming to worship and take their morning walk. The cool morning air encouraged the monkeys to be even more active and entertaining than usual. We also visited the Buddhist Stupa at Boudhnath and the Hindu cremation site at Pashupatinath, both World Heritage Sites. After lunch, we got our gear organized to fly up to the Khumbu. We’re really hoping that the clouds that have been hanging around for the last 2 days will clear so that we can fly first thing tomorrow. Some pics from the day are below!

Everest Base Camp/Island Peak Spring 2024

Namaste friends, family and loved ones, Thanks for tuning in to our coverage of Alpine Ascents’ Spring 2024 Everest Base Camp Trek and Island Peak Climb. The Team has arrived in Kathmandu and we met in person for the first time today to get the party started. We had an orientation meeting and went out for a nice dinner of traditional Nepali food.
Tomorrow we’re going to explore Kathmandu and get our gear organized, with the goal of flying up to the mountains on Wednesday. We will do our best to keep you in the loop as to where we are and what we’ve been up to, so stay tuned!

Himalayan Hoofers Head Home!

Namaste friends,family and loved ones!

We enjoyed our time together tromping through the mountains of the Himalayas and now it’s time to say our goodbyes. Ngima bestowed farewell khada scarves on us to bless our travels.

it was a thoughtful gesture and warmed our souls. Thank you Ngima for you good guidance

I’m going to miss you guys, my best team ever! May travel safely home.

Bye Canadian contingent, hope to see all of you again!

All my best,Vern Tejas

Great trip. Vern and Carol were great. Beautiful people and venues. Would love to go back one day and explore more areas. Beyond expectations. And Vern played the guitar, very cool. Amazing leadership and I think he should become a professional speaker when he retires. Amazing stories and experiences.
