Everest Base Camp Trek: Dharmavariants Arrive in Lukla

Friends, family & loved ones,

This morning, we packed up our bags, headed down Namche Hill and crossed the double-decker suspension bridge en route to Lukla. We re-traced our steps of almost two weeks ago but with fresh eyes and a whole new perspective.

We walked at a reasonable pace, but made it here in record time and we had most of the afternoon free to relax and shop. And shop some more.

This evening, we will bid farewell to some of our incredible Sherpa staff, who will return to their homes up valley tomorrow morning. We could not have done this trek without their help.

We’re all hoping for good weather for our flight to Kathmandu tomorrow.

Thanks for following!

Everest Base Camp Trek: Dharmavariants – Special Midday Post!

Friends, family & loved ones,

We are really enjoying our descent from Namche today- light trail traffic and blooming rhododendrons. We wanted to make sure that Wyatt knows that Papa Stewart is wishing you a very happy birthday. Happy 8th birthday Wyatt!

More later from Lukla!

Everest Base Camp Trek: Dharmavariants Return to Namche

Friends, family and loved ones,

The Variants had our longest trekking day so far today — from Dingboche to Namche. On our descent, we made our way past yak trains en route to Basecamp, trekkers headed uphill and porters carrying huge loads of plywood and other construction materials up to the higher villages.

A definite highlight was the rhododendrons in bloom. Their saturated colors … [Amethyst: contrasted with the dusty trail][David: enlivened the atmosphere][Michael: jumped out from the green juniper forest][Russ: leapt off the mountainside to give us a burst of energy][Lisa: were a sight to behold as we descended down to below treeline]. Beautiful!

After lunch in Phunky Tenga, we climbed back up from the river, took a tea break in Sanasa to admire the fantastic view of Ama Dablam, and cruised into Namche late afternoon.

A couple of photos from our day will be sent separately.

Can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of our trek! Thanks for following!

Fantastic! It was everything I had hoped for and more! I wanted to thank you and Alpine Ascents for a wonderful trip to Everest Base Camp! I wish I were back in the Khumbu! The itinerary was perfect! It allowed plenty of time to acclimate and I felt stronger as we got to higher altitude.
