Team Update

We’ve just been able to check our email and have learned about the avalanche tragedy in the Annapurna area of Nepal. We appreciate the emails we have received from concerned friends and family and want to reassure you that the Khumbu region has not been affected by the cyclone and that we are all doing well.

For Team Khumbu Crüe,

Team Khumbu Crüe Reaches Namche

It was a fantastic day for the Khumbu Crüe. Beautiful weather, unbelievable views and good trail conditions as we walked along the Dudh Kosi river and then up the big hill to Namche Bazar. The team did a great job practicing some of the breathing and pacing techniques we reviewed with them, and we all had a very enjoyable hike. We were welcomed in Namche by our old friends at the Panorama Hotel and right now people are enjoying the hotel’s amenities. Tomorrow we have an acclimatization day here. We’ll do a half day hike and then explore the sights of downtown Namche.

Talk to you tomorrow,
Vern and Carole

Team arrives in Lukla and treks to Phakding

Hi everyone,

After a short weather delay, we were able to fly this morning from Kathmandu to Lukla. Once we got above the clouds, we saw some great mountain views from the plane and the flight went smoothly. We had a second breakfast in Lukla and then started our walk under sunny blue skies. We made good time to Phakding, where we had time to relax and hang out for a bit. Dinner included some delicious momos, which are Nepali/Tibetan dumplings (ours were filled with vegetables), and a surprise birthday cake for Nick. Tomorrow we are going to hike to Namche Bazar at 11,300 feet. We will talk to you tomorrow from Namche.

Tour of Kathmandu

Hello friends, family and loved ones,

Tropical storms could not keep us from exploring the sights of the capital of Nepal. We took a walk through the ancient district of the palace square, a world heritage site, dating from the 14th century. We were awed by the intricately carved teak wood architecture. The monkey temple was next as we watched a myriad of furry simians frolic under Buddha’s all seeing gaze. Topping off the day with a visit to Boudanath, one of the largest Stupas in the world. Fun had by all.
We are eager to fly into the Khumbu valley tomorrow. Please join us.

All our best,
Carole & Vern Tejas

Team Has Arrived in Kathmandu

Namaste Everyone,

Vern and Carole Tejas reporting in for the Everest Base Camp/Island Peak team here in Kathmandu. The whole team has now arrived at the Yak & Yeti Hotel– everyone’s flights came in on time and all luggage is accounted for. We had an orientation meeting this afternoon and then went out for a very tasty dinner of typical Nepali food. Tomorrow will be a busy day, starting with a town tour and then a gear check and last minute shopping, so people have tucked in early to sleep off some jet lag.

We’ve got a great group of trekkers/climbers and are both really looking forward to sharing the Khumbu with them. We will be posting daily updates of our trek and will send photos where possible, so thanks for following along!

Fantastic! It was everything I had hoped for and more! I wanted to thank you and Alpine Ascents for a wonderful trip to Everest Base Camp! I wish I were back in the Khumbu! The itinerary was perfect! It allowed plenty of time to acclimate and I felt stronger as we got to higher altitude.
