100% summit Island Peak!

Hello Everyone!

We are back to Dingboche from the summit of Island Peak! We had a long but successful day yesterday, with everyone (Julie, Daniel, Ang Nuru, and myself) making it to 20,305ft or 6189m at the summit of Island Peak. Today we will continue on down to Deboche for the night then to Namche, Phakding, and then Lukla. The rest of the group, weather permitting should have flown out of Lukla and back to Kathmandu. You should be hearing from friends and family members shortly if you haven’t already. I should be able to talk to Joe today and update you with there last couple of days of trekking.

Island peak was an exciting climb! We woke at 1am and after a short breakfast we started hiking at 2am. We summited at 11am and were back at camp by 3pm. The climb had a little mix of everything from rock scrambling to snow and ice. It was a beautiful, exciting, and challenging climb. We all felt a great sense of accomplishment once back down to camp. Julie and Daniel did an excellent job on the climb and each challenged themselves on this so called “trekking” peak!

Thanks for following along! I’ll continue updating the next few days. Hope everyone is well!

Group in Dinboche parting ways

Parting ways

Hello,

We’ve all just said our goodbyes in Dingboche and parted ways. I’m heading up to Chukhung with Daniel, and Julie, while everyone else is heading down to Namche with Joe.

We will be climbing Island peak in the next few days. It’s a short hike today to Chukhung where we will rest today and then if we are all rested we will head to Island peak basecamp tomorrow and potentially climb to the summit early the next morning. I’ll send some voice recordings on our progress, but won’t have Internet access until we are back in Dingboche. I’ll also pass along info from the rest of the Trekkers heading down to Lukla but it might be a couple days before I’m in contact with Joe.

It’s a beautiful day today and we are able to see Island peak in the distance below Lhotse.

Again, we’ve had a great trek and have made some great friendships! Thanks for following along.

The Island Peak expedition was fantastic. The trek with the Base Camp group made the acclimatization portion social and fun.
