Everest Basecamp Trek – The Khrü pushes to Pheriche
Namaste
friends, family and loved ones!
More snow during the night but the mountains were clear this morning so we got our first good view of Everest, Lhotse and Amadablam.
We gained over 1000 feet of altitude during today’s trek. The team seems to be adapting well and everyone is in high spirits. Tomorrow we will not move camp but just go for an acclimatization hike. Come along for the fun of it!
All our best, Carole & Vern Tejas

Everest Basecamp Trek – Whirlybirds reach Lobuche
Namaste everyone,
The team is all here in Lobuche, 16,100 feet above sea level! Today we left Pheriche on a very beautiful and warm morning, walking through the snowfall from yesterday. We had clear skies and no wind -much warmer than the last 2 days.
After passing below the terminal moraine of the massive Khumbu glacier at Thukla, we turned uphill steeply to reach the Climbers memorial site. This a powerful place, lined with memorial stones for those that have perished climbing Mt Everest.
Lobuche sits in an unlikely place, a bastion of rock, scree and dirt only 150 yards from the lateral moraine of the Khumbu glacier.
The team is all relaxing near the hot stove and hanging out with our Sherpa team after our 6 hour day of walking. We are all doing well and enjoying our time here in this beautiful place.

Everest Basecamp Trek – Khumbu Khrü Kruises to Tengboche
Namaste Friends, Family & Loved Ones,
We’re having cheese and crackers in our teahouse in Tengboche looking out at the snow falling lightly outside.
The day started out clear, however, and we had great weather as we climbed up the hill outside of Namche this morning. We passed through Khumjung and visited the Hillary School, the only high school in the region. That’s a bust of Sir Edmund in the photo below.
We continued down the trail and descended to the river. We shared the trail today with many yaks carrying loads, including our own duffle bags. After lunch, took the shortcut trail up Tengboche Hill, gaining 2,000 feet. Once in Tengboche, we toured the monastery, which is the most ornately decorated monastery we will see on our trek.
Everyone is doing very very well. We are hoping that the skies over Everest will clear overnight and provide us with what has been an elusive view so far.
Please check back with us tomorrow,
Carole & Vern Tejas

Everest Basecamp Trek – Whirlybirds Enjoy Rest Day in Pheriche
Namaste everyone,
We are all relaxing in the warm confines of the Himalayan Lodge here in Pheriche. Currently it is snowing heavily outside!
We all enjoyed an acclimatizing walk this morning above town with about 1,000 feet of gain and some beautiful and cold/windy views. The team is all doing well and we are sending our best back to you all back home

Everest Basecamp Trek – Khumbu Khrü Kicks Back in Namche
Namaste Friends, Family & Loved Ones,
We woke up this morning to an unexpected snowfall. When the precipitation stopped, the view from our teahouse of Namche below was picturesque.
We walked up to the viewpoint hoping for a view of Everest and its neighbors but clouds got in the way. We were able to see Ama Dablam (23,000 feet) and also got a peak at Nuptse and Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain on Earth.
Given the weather, we took the opportunity to visit a typical Sherpa house and we saw an exhibition of some interesting photos of Namche and its inhabitants in years past.
Next to our teahouse is the Namche primary school. About fourteen of the students sponsored by the Alpine Ascents Sherpa Education Fund attend this school, and we were able to tour the premises today. It’s an impressive place. The photo below shows the Team in front of the Kindergarten building, also sponsored by Alpine Ascents.
After lunch, we went to the Namche Monastery, where we were blessed by the resident monk. We checked out Namche’s weekly market, where locals were selling everything from vegetables and yak cheese to batteries and shoes. Many of us then hit the shops and cafes downtown before returning to our teahouse for a dinner of Momos (meat and veg dumplings) and fresh vegetables. It was a full day of exploring what Namche has to offer.
We plan to hit the trail tomorrow and trek to Tengboche. Thanks for following!

Not always could you hope to have such a well motivated and compatible group, BUT this was one of these times and made the event extra special! I really can’t think of anyway things could of been improved.
