Team Sputnik descends!

Friends, family and loved ones,

We bid farewell to the beautiful twin peaks of Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe.

Then down we went to the valley below. Down to the green of vegetation, the thick oxygen rich air and hot showers, we embraced all. After we thoroughly bathed and put on fresh clothes we celebrated over plates of Russian BBQ know as Shashlek.

We put away lots of lamb and vodka and beer.

Food was had by all.

All our best,
Carole & Vern Tejas

Sputniks Summit

Friends, family and loved ones,

Awake early and out of the hut at 4 am, the team was excited. It was blowing and snowing all night so there was some doubt that we would launch. However as soon as we started up the mountain the wind abated and the clouds lifted somewhat.

Break time at 5100 meters
The upper mountain was covered with a foot of new snow so the going was slow. The round trip took us fourteen hours, but it was well worth the effort.

Very well organized. Vern and Carole were great. Very effective and memorable and both took time to explain and demonstrate skills and knowledge.
