Prepping for Summit Attempt

Hola! Today we had a leisurely morning and big breakfast before heading up a bit higher for a short acclimation hike. We then came back for lunch, reviewed our gear and climbing techniques, and had some more down time to organize for tomorrow. The team is all very excited and ready to attempt Pico de Orizaba! We will check back in at some point tomorrow after our climb and let you know how it goes. Thanks for following along! Ari and team Mexican Alpine Beavers

La Sierra Negra

Hola! Today we had breakfast at Orizaba Mountain Guides, then drove to Sierra Negra and hiked to 15,354ft/4680m ! We had great weather and the team is feeling strong. For 7 members, this was a new highest altitude record for them! We then headed back and had lunch before taking 4×4 vehicles up to our Orizaba basecamp. Everyone is excited to finally set foot on our main objective! We will update you again tomorrow, thanks for following along! Ari and the Mexican Alpine Beavers

Rest day for the Mexican Alpine Badgers!

Hola! Today we had breakfast in the beautiful courtyard of our hotel, then the team went for a walking tour of Puebla including seeing a 1500’s cathedral and the oldest library in the Americas. We had lunch at a historic hotel then left Puebla and headed to our next location; Orizaba Mountain Guides compound in Zoapan. We enjoyed a cervesa on the rooftop watching sunset over Orizaba, our first good view of our main objective. We will check back in tomorrow! Thanks for following along! Ari and team Mexican Alpine Beavers

Mexican Alpine Beavers summit La Malinche!

Hola! The team got up early and spent 5 hours climbing to the summit of La Malinche, at 4461m/14646ft! We were joined by a whole group of dogs on the summit that climbed all the way from our resort! We then descended, hopped in our vans and drove to the city of Puebla. We are staying in a beautiful hotel and had an amazing traditional Mexican meal at Los Murales restaurant. The team has also come up with the team name of "Mexican Alpine Beavers" based on an inside joke that has formed. Thanks for following along! Team Mexican Alpine Beavers

Team takes a half day

Hola!Today we had a breakfast of eggs, meat, toast, and coffee, then with a leisurely 10am start went for a short 3 hour acclimation hike. The team then spent the rest of the day enjoying the sunshine and relaxing, organizing for tomorrow’s climb of Malinche. We just had dinner and now are headed for an earlier bedtime in order to get an early start tomorrow! Thank you for following along! Ari and team

Having just returned from the expedition, I wanted to say what a truly wonderful experience it was. The whole expedition was extremely smooth. My guide is an insightful and dynamic leader.
