Elbrus Team #1 (The Glissaders) Acclimatize Above Terskol Village

Friends, Family & Loved Ones,

The weather gods looked upon us kindly today and, in beautiful weather, we were able to hike up about 3,000 feet to a watchtower overlooking Terskol village. After an hour or so of hiking up a gravel road, we veered off and went overland, climbing up steeply on tussocks and long grass interspersed with an assortment of alpine wildflowers. It’s warm in the village now but a fair amount of snow remained towards the top of our hike.

We made it back to our hotel in time for a late lunch and had time in the afternoon to relax and get our gear sorted for tomorrow, when we will move up to the huts.

Everybody is doing well and looking forward to getting on the mountain.

Thanks for following us,

Carole & Vern Tejas

Elbrus Team #1 (The Glissladers) acclimatize above Cheget!

Strasviche (Hello), friends, family and loved ones,

Amazing amount of change we have experienced in the last 24 hours. Yesterday we were in the sophisticated city of St.Petersburg in Northern Russia.

And today we are hiking in the mountains of the Southern border. Asia is only 5 kilometers away!

After our acclimatizing trek we dumped our duffel bags out on the floor and did a gear check.

Everyone passed with flying colors and we repacked our duffles for going up the mountain the day after tomorrow. We will start early tomorrow for the Observatory.

All our best,
Carole and Vern Tejas

Elbrus Team #1 (The Glissaders) Travels to Mineral Vody

Friends, Family & Loved Ones,

Hello from the Baksan Valley! The team (now known as The Glissaders) traveled today from St Petersburg to Mineral Vody with the efficiency of a small military operation.

The check-in process at the airport was a cultural experience in and of itself, but all went smoothly. We’re now at our hotel in the very small hamlet of Terskol and getting ready for bed after a long travel today. Glad to be here at the foot of Mount Elbrus!

Elbrus Team #1 tours St Petersburg

Friends, Family & Loved Ones,

We had a jam packed day today touring St Petersburg. From the Peter and Paul Fortress to the Kazan Cathedral to the Battleship Aurora, we covered the town. After a swanky rooftop lunch (great view of the city), we took on the Hermitage museum, the largest in Russia. In the afternoon rain, we made a quick stop at St Isaac’s Cathedral– third largest in the world– Wow– before ending the day with a beef stroganoff dinner — vkusno! (Delicious).

After some free time tomorrow morning, we will head to the airport for our flight to Mineralne Vody. Looking forward to getting up to the mountains!
