La Malinche Success for Los Mapaches

Hola!
We camped in cabanas at 10,000ft for the last 2 nights, first doing an acclimation hike up to 12000ft yesterday and enjoying an afternoon off to organize and relax. Today we got up early and headed up the trail! The whole team stood on top of Malinche, higher than any point in the lower 48 of the US! We cruised down and drove into Puebla for hot showers, nice drinks, and a delicious dinner including a traditional Mole tasting! Everyone is doing well and looking forward to seeing more of Puebla tomorrow! We’ve also chosen a team name: Los Mapaches! (Aka the racoons)
Thanks for following along!

The Historical Background of Mexico City

Hola!
Today we started with a tour of the Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, one of the best museums in the world! We walked through the important pre-Hispanic cultures that shaped Mexico and whose lands and ruins we will be traveling through on this trip. Then we left the city and went to the historic town of Tlaxcala, seeing the oldest church and oldest bull fighting ring in Mexico, and getting more information on the history of this area specifically.  The day finished with us arriving at our home for the next 2 nights at the base of La Malinche, our first objective! We may be out of service here but you’ll hear from us soon!

Day One for the Volcanoes of Mexico Team!

Hola! Today we kicked off our trip with introductions and a gear check here at our hotel in the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City. After making sure we were organized and ready to go, we walked to a nearby restaurant specializing in cuisine from the Oaxaca region of Mexico for our welcome dinner! Food was delicious and conversation was fun, the trip is off to a great start! We will be posting as we go and sending pictures when possible, thanks for following along on our trip!

The team returns to Mexico City

Hi everyone! We slept in after our long adventure yesterday and then started the day with. Hearty breakfast prepared by the fantastic cooks at Orizaba Mountain Guides. We packed up our stuff, piled in the van and started the journey back to Mexico City. Legs were tired but hearts were full! We stopped at the ruins of Teotihuacán on the way back and enjoyed a tour of the ancient city lead by Arnoldo. We even made our final summit as a team by climbing the tall stone stairs of the Temple of the Moon. Afterwards we returned to Mexico City and went out for celebratory margaritas and tacos on a rooftop restaurant nearby. We stayed up laughing and talking, already making plans for next adventures and ways to visit with each other in the coming months.
This trip has been an amazing adventure and our team has become a very cohesive bundle of banter and laughs throughout it. We are sad that it’s coming to a close, but perhaps there are many other mountains to climb in our future. Thank you for following our journey!
