Mexico Team heads out of the city

The Team leaves Mexico City

This morning we loaded all our duffles and backpacks in the van and started our journey to the Mexico Volcanoes. Our first stop was the National Museum of Anthropology, which is one of the great museums of the world.  We learned about prehispanic peoples of Mexico on a tour through the museum that Arnoldo, our local tour guide lead. Then we drove a couple hours east to a town called Tlaxcala, where we ate a huge lunch in the gorgeous San Francisco Hotel on the man square and went for a walking tour of the town.

Afterwards we continued further east to the flanks of La Malinche, where we will stay for the next couple of days as we acclimatize for Orizaba by enjoying an ascent of La Malinche.

Mexico Volcanoes 2025-26 Season Begins!

The team meets in Mexico City!

Folks arrived from far and wide today to start our journey up the Mexico Volcanoes as a team.  We did some introductions, checked all of our gear to make sure everyone has the right equipment for the trip, and talked over some logistics for the next few days.  It’s already clear that we are a high functioning team and that we’re set up to have a very fun and successful trip! We went out to dinner after the gear check to a delicious classic Mexican meal that even included a dish that was slow cooked for 18 hours!  We did some good chatting and getting to know each other, and we’re all looking forward to a full day tomorrow of making our way to the flanks of La Malinche.  Thanks for following our journey!

The 2024-25 Mexico Volcanoes Season Comes to a Close

Our 2024/25 Mexico Volcano climbing season was a tremendous success, and we’re happy to share that 100% of our expeditions reached the summit of Pico de Orizaba, the third-highest peak in North America. Our 4 expeditions enjoyed the best of Mexico’s highest peaks and the richness of Mexico’s culture, for a whirlwind season that brought fun, growth, and an unrivaled sense of accomplishment. Thanks for following along, and happy climbing!

Summit Success for Team Waiting for Wind and Truth!

Team Waiting for Wind and Truth got up in the early morning hours and started hiking in some light snow.  The weather cleared for us and we got great stars and eventually a beautiful sunrise, complete with a mountain shadow! Everyone did great and we all summitted! It was a new altitude record for two of our members, which is always exciting. We are now back down at 10k ft and enjoying showers and a delicious celebration dinner. Thanks for following!
