Today is November 7th. We woke up at Base Camp at Antisana to a beautiful blue sky, incredible views of Antisana and Cotopaxi (Base Camp is at 13,300 feet), had a great breakfast, and then took 4-wheel drive vehicles up to Advanced Base Camp (over 15,000 feet). Then the Team hiked up to the glacier at the base of Antisana (up to 15,600 feet) which is the same height as Mont Blanc, then spent six hours up at 15,600 acclimatizing, practicing our glacier skills. We had a little bit of rough weather in the middle, we had some hail for about an hour but everyone was in good spirits. We practiced our cramponing techniques; we practiced walking roped up around crevasses, and self arrest. Everyone did really well in the altitude.
On the drive back we saw some condors. We saw wild deer, wild horses, and we saw a lot of llamas. Overall the team did great today. We’re back at Base Camp ready to rest and all excited to do our summit day on Antisana after a rest day tomorrow.
So this is Joe Greenberg signing off for Team Jose and the Ecuadorks.
