Team 10 Tranquilo adjusts their route plans to do a low traverse in consideration of snow conditions and incoming weather

Hey everybody, this is Dave Heinbach with Aconcagua Team 10, also known as Team Tranquilo.

Well today we changed our plans a little bit, turns out the upper mountain is full of snow. Nobody going up there and that means some pretty arduous trail breaking. Now that (combined with the cold weather conditions that we’re having and some forecast foul weather for the next day) convinced the guides that it was necessary to do a low traverse instead of the high traverse that we normally do. So today we kind of bore down and gritted our teeth and made the move up to what’s known as Guanacos Camp (and it’s about 18,000 feet). The team did fantastic.

Now that change of plans means that tomorrow we’re going to have to do what’s called a back carry. We’re going to have to go back down to Amagino Col and get our stuff and come back here. Basically we’re going to treat that like an active rest day. Tomorrow’s also looking like we’re going to have some foul weather, so it’s going to give people a chance to fine tune their clothing systems, glove systems, getting ready for our summit day. And it’s little details like that, that make a difference when the weather’s less than ideal, as it is right now.

So we’ll keep you posted and for Aconcagua Team 10, also known as Team Tranquilo, this is Dave Heinbach saying “Adios”!
