The Orient Express headed to the more sheltered Guanacos Camp with spectacular views

Friends, family, loved ones, Stuart here on The Orient Express. Well it seems time is still on our side, but the weather with the present and forecasted high winds perhaps is not. But we’ll see what happens with that.

Yesterday after much thought, deliberation Agnes, Jangbu, and myself we put our heads together and we decided to move our camp to Guanacos 3 Camp (at 5,500 meters). A little bit more sheltered than the base of the Polish Glacier, which is our usual Camp 3 and it also avoids an icy traverse across the black rocks which seems pretty dangerous at the moment. So we spent the night here at Guanacos 3 Camp last night.

The plan today is we are going to see with these winds, just been talking to another Alpine Team up there, we’re hoping to get up and over the ridge. So we can at least make the traverse and perhaps drop down to Nido. So we’re going to go up towards Plaza Colera (5,970 meters) and then depending on weather, drop down to Nido which is a little bit sheltered on the other side and that will give us the traverse of the mountain which Agnes really wants to do. Once we’re there it also puts us in a great position to see what happens with these winds, very easy to go back up from there and make a summit attempt. So hopefully the weather doesn’t come to fruition, or the forecasted weather doesn’t and we’ll have a summit attempt in the next few days, fingers crossed on that one.

Spectacular views from here. It’s windy but it’s clear so good views of Pyramidal, Mercedario, La Mano, and some of the other peaks northeast of Del Tambillo. So beautiful, beautiful day here just a little windy. Everyone sends their love. Thanks for tuning in. Bye for now.
