Due to some strong winds, Team 12/Egregious spends a cooler day at 14 Camp shoveling and relaxing as they wait for clear skies

Hello everyone, this is Ben, Willy, and John calling in with Team 12 here on Denali, or Team Egregious. We’re doing very well here; we’re at the 14,200 foot Camp.

We had a weather/rest day today. We were going to try and carry up to the top of the Fixed Lines (up to about 16,200 feet) today, but the storm has come in. It’s been getting colder, which has been nice. But we’ve got some snow and some really strong winds high up on the ridge and also here at camp as well. So we took a rest day today and got a lot of sleep, did some shoveling around camp and a little camp maintenance, and then relaxed a bit.

Everybody’s doing good. I think they’re ready to get out of the camp early tomorrow, if the weather breaks for us hopefully we’ll get cache in up on the West Buttress, above the Fixed Lines here tomorrow. We’ll see what the weather brings for us tomorrow, but that’s our plan for tomorrow. And then hopefully move up to the High Camp here in the next couple days.

We’ll see what the weather brings though; this storm may be around for the next couple days, so we’ll just see what happens. We’ll let you know what happens tomorrow. Talk to you soon.

  • Denali ’24 in a Nutshell

Submission by Jess, Alaska Operations. When I touched down in Talkeetna this year, greeted by sunny skies and perfect weather, I couldn’t help but feel hopeful for a smoother forecast for Denali climbing season compared to the previous year’s relentlessly poor weather. Julia was clearly on the same wavelength because just a few weeks before, […]
