Hi friends,
Yesterday we departed Passu heading South on the KKH. We stopped in Gulmit village to visit a woman’s weaving center where the team purchased quite a few carpets. This money stays local with the women who weaved the particular pieces.
We continued past Attabad lake, a beautiful turquoise blue, created by a massive landslide that blocked the Hunza river in 2010.
We reached to Karimabad, enjoyed some espresso and Hunza walnut cake before walking up the the Baltit fort at the top of the hill. The fort is over 700 years old and was the former king/queens residence. Restoration has been preformed by the Aga Khan Cultural Heritage foundation as well as donations from many important families in the community here. The fort is amazing.
We ended the day at our hotel- the Eages Nest in Duiker 6 km up above the river overlooking the valley and all of the mountains.
