Summer is in full swing in the Cascades and temperatures are set to soar over the weekend, peaking on Sunday and Monday in Rainier National Park. On Sunday, it will be a remarkable 73 degrees at Camp Muir and 63 degrees (!!!) on the summit. Whether you’re climbing or hiking, pack plenty of water and don’t neglect your electrolytes and salty snacks!
Muir / Disappointment Cleaver Update
Paradise trails are about 95% covered in snow with close to 60” of snow at the Paradise stake. Teams are using the summer trail up to Pebble Creek. Sections are starting to melt out quickly and ,as a reminder, please stay on the summer trail this time of year to reduce impact to vegetation as the snow melts quickly. Overall the upper mountain is in excellent condition with a well-established track and teams reaching the summit daily. From Muir, there is a climber friendly traverse across the Cowlitz and both sides of Cathedral gap are snow free now. The Cleaver is mostly rock, with limited patches of snow.
White River / Emmons Update
The trail out of White River to Glacier Basin is snow free until around 5,000ft and fully snow covered at the base of the Inter glacier. While traveling on the summer trail towards the Inter Glacier, guides reported multiple spots of running water. Currently, Inter Glacier has straightforward climbing conditions up and over Camp Curtis down to Camp Schurman. From Camp Schurman, the route ascends up the Corridor to around 12,500. Just above the Corridor, the route currently has one section of firm surface conditions. Above the firm section, the route heads directly to Columbia Crest.
