The team in front of the Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station Team “Legs Mise’rables” waits it out in town
Hello Friends and Family,
The Alpine Ascents Denali Expedition scheduled to leave on May 20 has been delayed a day due to weather. It was raining in town and snowy at the Kahiltna base camp. So it is, we have been dealt our first dose of adversity – having to stay in town another night! We did however accomplish our gear check, have a nice pizza lunch, get a briefing from ranger Jake at the NPS (we had a hunch we weren’t flying when the power went out halfway through his powerpoint) and, most importantly, establish our team name of Legs Mise’rables ; which is a play on the title of the French historical novel by Victor Hugo, first published in 1862, that is considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century. I’ve never read it, but we can confidently say that despite the delay the team is doing better than Jean Valjean. We’re hopeful that we have the weather window to get on to the Kahiltna glacier tomorrow. Stay tuned on the cybercast page for updates on the team’s progress.
