Hello Everyone,
We have successfully reached the upper Hunza Valley here at Passu after around 20 hours of driving. We are about 60 km from Kunjerab Pass at the China border. The team is doing great!
Yesterday our flight was cancelled and we departed Islamabad by 5:15 am with our coaster bus and excellent driver Rafeek, and our good friend and Pakistani guide Momin.
We drove 12 hours over Babusar Pass and down into Chilas for the night. A wonderful scenic tour through many small villages and some wild roads.
As it turns out one of the bridges we crossed was wiped out by a flood 2 hours after we passed. The weather system that prevented our flight to Gilgit is causing some havoc on these impressive mountain roads.
Today we joined the the mighty Indus River and the famous KKH (Karakoram Highway) from Chilas up to near Gilgit, where we then followed the Hunza River North. The roads here simply have to be experienced to be believed in this impressive landscape.
The mountains are still hiding behind cloud cover be we know there are dozens of 7000m peaks just waiting to show us their splendor.
We wrapped up the day visiting some of Momin’s extended family in the village and enjoying some tea and local apples and pears in their home.
The people of Pakistan have been extremely friendly and happy to see foreigners wanting to visit their beautiful country.
