Hello everyone! After their successful Cotopaxi climb, the team traveled south to attempt Chimborazo, the highest mountain in Ecuador. They rested and recovered for one more night at beautiful Hacienda Abraspungo and then moved to the foot of the mountain. They started their climb at midnight from the Stübel Camp (16,567 feet). The weather was nice and the snow conditions were very good. The team was going strong. In only four and a half hours of climbing, they got to 19,668 feet. A great performance at that altitude. But then, they checked the snow pack again and decided to turn around due to avalanche concern. Safety first as always. Anyways, they are all in a good mood and happy to have had the opportunity to climb in the Ecuadorian Andes. Please, find below some notes about the climb in the unique writing style of Jonathan Kanovsky:
“Tres pelotas conquered Cotopaxi. We climbed that mountain faster than a speeding New York Taxi
DJ Tic Toc and Aussie Paul waited at the top for the Walking Dead. No problemo he was Nico led
Chimborazo was Tres Pelotas’ next goal. They expected to find at the top a big volcanic hole.
Patricio drove his bus over speed bumps and pot holes. He cant believe he is stuck with these 3 a holes
Tres Pelotas hiked to Stubel Camp using a porter. They were way too lazy to carry their own water.
Aussie Paul took 1 look at the mountain called Chimbo. Rather than climb, he spent the day in limbo
DJ Tic Toc and Walking Dead started their Chimbo attempt at midnight..up Stubel glacier lit by moonlight
Along with Jose, Dos Pelotas were led by Manuel and Pablo, by the time the sun rose all systems were go.
The Walking dead went slow and steady, at 19100 chimbo summit was primed and ready
DJ tic toc without sugar and beer got to 19668, Aussie Paul said good job mate
As we both reached to climb our personal highs, Jose let out a great big sigh
No, Nico did not fall attempting Meru, but he is Ultra Running this time in Peru
Jose an expert in analyzing snow slopes, quickly dashed dos pelotas summit hopes
We all know that safety comes first, having one of us hurt would be the worst.
We walked back to camp tired and back packs heavy, Aussie Paul said here have some coffee
As this adventure comes to an end, I am grateful for Jose, Nico, Aussie Paul, DJ tic toc…all new friends”
