The Blockade Runners spend the day making their way through negotiation after negotiation to the end of the road

Hello there friends, family, and loved ones, this is the Blockade Runners on Carstensz trip. We’re calling in from a small village at the end of the road. We made about five and a half miles today from Sugapa, on our way with a whole lot of hurry up and wait.

So first we had to do negotiations that took about two or three hours to figure out who our porters were going to be. And then we got on some motorbikes and we went about a quarter of a mile out of town, to our first blockade. Yes, first of many. We had blockades after blockades today, as a matter of fact I think we counted, how many guys? (asked to team in background) nine of those things. So we’d go really fast between the blockades, and then we’d wait till we’d renegotiated to get the trees removed from the road, and then we’d go really fast to the next one. And that continued all the way to the last village tonight, where we got stopped about three minutes before we were going to camp and we talked the blockader into coming into camp and negotiating as we set up our tents.

So we’re all healthy and fine and a little bit wet, happy to be here and happy to be on our route. So please stay tuned to the further adventures of the Blockade Runners. Ta ta for now!
