The Team summited Kala Pattar, with sunrise views of Mount Everest and surrounding peaks, then ends the day celebrating the Nepali New Year

Hi everyone, this is Carole Tejas reporting in for the Everest Base Camp Trek and Island Peak Climb. We had another great day today here.

Most of us got up really early and we climbed up Kala Pattar (over 18,000 feet). We got an amazing sunrise view of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and the mountains surrounding Everest Base Camp. We went back to Gorak Shep after that, and headed down to Dingboche where we are now. Beautiful mountain views the whole way down!

Everybody’s having tea at the moment and we’re all looking forward to celebrating the Nepali New Year this evening. It’s the year 2070 here.
This will be the last cybercast for the Island Peak crew. They’ll head up the Chukhung tomorrow to begin their climb. We wish them a safe and successful one.

I will call you back tomorrow and report in for the trekkers. Ciao for now!

From the top of Kala Pattar, a trekker looks out north towards Tibet with Mt. Everest’s summit ridge off to the right.
