August 20 Machame Team Heads to Kilimanjaro!

Hello Everybody, The August 20, Machame Route Kilimanjaro team is all packed up and ready to embark in the morning. Today, we kicked off with with a welcome breakfast before diving into orientation. We reviewed the route on maps, discussed daily itineraries, strategies for staying healthy and the like. After lunch we went through the gear check followed by a town tour visiting the markets here in Arusha. We wrapped up the day sharing a meal together at a favorite restaurant before a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow morning we will jump in the Land Cruisers and drive a couple hours to the Machame Gate where we will meet our fantastic local Tanzanian crew and begin our trek. We will walk through lush rain forest for about 6 miles before arriving toour first camp- Machame Camp. We will be sending out audio cybercasts every evening for the rest of the climb- Stay tuned!
