We started the day with a frozen river crossing in flip flops—it was quite a good morning! After drying off, we began what ended up being a 10 mile hike up steeper terrain than we’d been exposed to previously—it ended up being roughly 3000 feet in elevation. I think we all felt it!
We were able to stare at the Polish Glacier for basically the entire day, which served as good external motivation to go with out own collective internal stores.
Highlight of course was reaching base camp! Getting tents/sleeping arrangements for the next few days sorted, taking a SHOWER, getting a proper meal, and doing some much needed recovery as we enter the next stage of the adventure.
And to top it off, we received news that Pedro, another guide with Alpine Ascents, is going to be joining us for the duration of our trip. Amazing news for various reasons, and we’re really excited to have him aboard!
Also glad to report that while both Susan and Shiva got stuck in the bathroom at our last camp (independent of one another), they both managed to successfully escape!
