Day 3 Trekking to Machu Picchu

Hello everyone,

Yesterday we left the lodge early (7am) for our longest and highest day of trekking. The first two hours we hiked up through the Pampa (valley floor), still a little cool before the sun finally hit us and started to warm us up. Then we headed straight for Salkantay Peak before making a left and heading up to the pass all the way to 15,200ft! Everyone did amazing! We are all in good health and spirits and everyone has had no problem with the altitude, which is truly remarkable. After reaching the pass and celebrating we started the journey back down to Wayra lodge at 12,800ft. The clouds started rolling up from the cloud forest below us as we stopped at our tent for lunch. We had more great food and started walking for another 1 hour and a 1/2 before taking a siesta. We reached the lodge after about 8 and 1/2 hours after leaving our first lodge at Salkantay. We’ve had incredible weather so far and an incredible group to share this amazing experience and trip with. I will post some pictures soon, but am having a few difficulties with my camera and phone finding each other.

Talk to you soon,

Ben
