Everest Base Camp Trek: Dharmavariants Trek to Thame

Friends, family & loved ones,

Greetings from Thame at 12,400 feet. The Team had another jam packed day today. We swung through the weekly Namche market on our way out of town — lots of vegetables and household basics for sale and crowded with locals. After we left Namche, we walked to Thamo on a lovely trail through the forest above the river, passing a number of small chortens and stone tablets carved with the mantra “Om mani padme hum”. We stopped for a tea break at the house of Ang Gyalzen, one of our trek staff. We continued down the trail to Thame, where we are staying at a lodge owned by the parents of Nima Namgyal, another member of our trek staff.

After lunch, some of us climbed up to the 600 year old Thame Monastery, which we had to ourselves this afternoon.

One cool thing today was that we saw a lot of wildlife. In addition to the “usual” yaks and cows, we saw a bunch of Danphe (- Nepal’s National bird) and Himalayan Thar (similar to a goat).

We have lots of good photos to share with you but very limited Wi-Fi tonight, so we will send you photos at another time.

Tomorrow we move to Khumjung!
